Deshong Consulting Artwork

In this artwork we really wanted to respect the area in which we live, work and have been raised in, paying respects to our mob from the far NQ area, the saltwater nation, the plant types (greens) and the shells (for the beautiful beaches), and acknowledging our Torres Strait Islander Brothers and Sisters.

The Yellow pathway weaves throughout touching many, making a difference and leaving our legacy. The main circle design you see has 6 layers representing the 6 areas of expertise that Deshong Consulting provides.

About the artist
Yathi winja (Good day) My name is Leah Cummins, I am a proud Mayi woman from North-Western Queensland.
Mayi-Kulan from my father and Kalkadoon from my mother. I have family connections from the Simpson Desert up to the Gulf of Carpentaria.
I find inspiration in my cultural identity and bring my stories of my country and people to life in my art. I paint of stories of strength for women and children, love of the land and all my people.
I pay respect to the ancestors who give me these stories in my creativity, to share my culture that transcends words and draws people into wanting to learn about First Nations people. I paint both traditional and contemporary art using storytelling in every art piece to educate and teach everyone of my people’s culture.
I hope to inspire and uplift my people by contributing to the sharing of culture and stories through my art.
I want to share all my piece with love and harmony
“Bunya Sister”

Services & Expertise

Deshong Consulting has been led by Michelle Deshong as the Managing consultant. Michelle’s skills and expertise bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, networks and relationships.

Deshong Consulting continues to grow as an Indigenous female led, small business, creating a pathway for generational prosperity. We are strongly committed to the move towards self-determination for Indigenous people and choose to work with like minded individuals and organisations.

Respect, we pay our respects to those that have paved the way for us, those that have worked so hard to allow us to be in these spaces and support the important work we do. We always communicate respectfully and openly with our clients and ensure that we deliver based on our client needs and purpose.

Transparency, we always encourage people to be open and to speak up where and when necessary, in the products we deliver, we will always be transparent and responsive to client needs.

Loyalty, we have built a strong group of loyal clients and continue to deliver our services to a higher standard ensuring we are able to keep and build our client base for now and into the future. We are also looking to expand our reach and work with new clients and develop new projects as we move forward.

Culture, One of the many philosophies that Michelle has shared is the belief that ‘Culture should be our Reason, Not our Excuse’. This provides the foundation for culture at the heart of what we do, but to also not shy away from difficult cultural conversations and perspectives. We adapt each of our services to be culturally appropriate and inclusive across the board including cultural responsiveness training and workshops. We respect cultural differences and work to meet the needs of our clients, ensuring that cultural ways of knowing, being and doing are at the heart of our business.

Testimonials

“Shikierra is an independent and accountable colleague, known for her diligence, care, and thoughtfulness both in the workplace and as a friend. Her exceptional skills in stakeholder relationships, community engagement, and event management — always delivering on time and within budget — make her an invaluable asset”
“Working with Shikierra was an absolute pleasure. Her meticulous planning and attention to detail in managing the Supply Nation Knowledge Forum (2024) were exceptional — from sharp run sheets to well-prepared panel bios and effective briefings. Her energy, professionalism, and willingness to go the extra mile made the collaboration seamless, and I hope others shadowing her recognised the level of expertise she brought to the table.”
“Michelle provided corporate governance training to the Bi-Yanga Local Decision-Making Body, Toowoomba. The training was not only insightful, but she also has a talent for making less-vocal participants feel comfortable to speak up and be fully engrossed. Michelle’s training led us to be forward-thinking and to put rigorous governance as well as forward planning in place. I would recommend Michelle for training again.  ”
“The opportunity to work with Michelle is always worth seizing. Her passion and commitment for supporting individuals to bring their best selves is evident. She is an engaging, energetic and a thought- provoking facilitator, committed to the development of leadership for First Nations Peoples and the opportunity that this presents for all.”
