We had the pleasure of working with Shikierra Thorne on the delivery of the National NAIDOC Awards Ceremony, and her contribution was invaluable. As a proud First Nations woman, Shikierra brought cultural understanding, authenticity and a thoughtful approach to every aspect of the project. She played a key role in managing vendor communications and the coordination of high-profile guests, overseeing travel, information sharing and relationship management in the lead up to the event. On the night, she served as the primary point of contact for these guests, supporting them with care, professionalism, and calm presence. Throughout the project, Shikierra also supported our team during WIP meetings with the client. Whilst I led the meetings, she was a reliable and knowledgeable presence. Offering detailed updates on her areas of responsibility and contributing to a strong working relationship with the client. Her approachable nature and attention to detail helped her build genuine rapport, becoming a trusted point of contact across multiple areas. We’re incredibly grateful for Shikierra’s work and would gladly collaborate with her again on future projects.

Wiyi Yani U Thangani Institute

Both Shikierra & Michelle worked with the Australian Human Rights Commission on the Wiyi Yan U Thangani Summit in May 2023, and the establishment of the WYUT institute. Michelle assisted the team to develop the implementation framework and establish the summit design committee and co- hosted the summit with June Oscar. Shikierra worked on events management, logistics and coordination.

TSRA

Michelle has worked with TSRA for a number of years, including the delivery of the Torres Strait womens leadership program and more recently providing leadership and governnace training to the executive and board. She provides the unique perspective of balancing cultural governance and perspectives with corporate governance responsibilities and obligations.

Australian Rural Leadership Foundation

Michelle is both an alumni and an associate of the foundation. Michelle continues to facilitate and deliver programs across the country including; presentations to the ARLP (Australian Rural Leadership Program) ,Torres Strait womens leadership program and the Milparanga emerging and established programs

Murawin

Michelle partnered with Murawin for their ‘Tiddas in Business’ program, which was targeted to Indigenous female entrepreneurs and business owners. Michelle provided models of leadership in business, while also including the unique lived experience of intersectionality and gender based enablers to success.

Reef Traditional Owner Taskforce

Shikierra was engaged to project manage the Sea Country Forum as an events manager Shikierra worked with key stakeholders, the National ReefTO taskforce and logistical oversight for the event held in march 2025. This included liaison with venues, timelines, project management, procurement, production, talent management and consultation with the client to deliver on the intention of the forum.

Waminda

Over the last 2 years Deshong Consulting has been delivering leadership and goverance training to the staff of Waminda. Building strong foundations for succession planning, individual growth and organisational development. In September 2024 Michelle Emcee’d the Waminda National Conference: Strong Women, Strong Commuity, Leading the Way
